1. Agreement and adult responsibility
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between Bailiwick Languages ("Bailiwick," "we," "us") and the adult accepting them. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
Children do not accept these Terms on their own. A parent, guardian, caregiver, educator, or school-authorized adult must create and control the relevant account or learner access.
You must provide accurate adult account information, keep credentials secure, and promptly tell us if you believe an account or classroom code has been misused. Learner profiles should use only the information reasonably needed for learning, such as a first name or nickname and grade band.
2. Using Bailiwick
Educational license
While your access is active, Bailiwick grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service for personal, family, classroom, or school-authorized educational purposes. You may not sell, sublicense, copy at scale, reverse engineer except where law permits, or use Bailiwick to build a competing dataset or service.
Acceptable use
You may not use the service to:
- harm, exploit, groom, harass, impersonate, or obtain unnecessary personal information from a child;
- bypass access controls, probe another family or school workspace, disrupt the service, or introduce malware;
- upload content you do not have permission to use, or content containing student identifiers, credentials, medical details, or other unnecessary sensitive information;
- misrepresent AI output as a human educator's reviewed decision, or use Orb to make high-stakes decisions about a learner; or
- violate law, school policy, intellectual-property rights, or another person's privacy.
Learning results and Orb
Bailiwick is an educational practice tool, not a substitute for a qualified teacher, specialist, legal adviser, medical provider, emergency service, or a school's formal assessment process. Progress indicators are based on activity evidence and product rules; they should be considered alongside professional judgment.
Orb is a browser-local generative learning helper. Its responses may be incomplete or wrong. Orb is not allowed to grade work, change mastery, approve curriculum, publish content, or make placement and disciplinary decisions. The learner's deterministic activity results and authorized adult decisions control those outcomes.
Educator and school responsibilities
An educator or school must have authority to create learner profiles, assign work, provide source material, and view education records. Schools are responsible for required family notices, consents, procurement review, accessibility review, records schedules, and compliance with laws and policies that apply to their deployment. A school should not direct learners to use an unapproved feature.
Your content and Bailiwick content
You retain ownership of content you submit. You give Bailiwick a limited license to host, process, reproduce, and display that content only as needed to operate, secure, review, and improve the service for your authorized workspace. You represent that you have permission to submit it.
Bailiwick and its licensors retain rights in the service, software, curriculum, artwork, Bots, trademarks, and other materials. Feedback may be used to improve Bailiwick without identifying a learner.
Service changes and availability
Bailiwick is under active development. Features, curriculum, device support, and availability may change. We may suspend a feature to protect learners, data, security, or product integrity. Browser-local AI and local speech features depend on compatible hardware, browser capabilities, available storage, and downloaded files. Core learning should not be represented as synchronized when the database connection is unavailable.
3. Ending use, enforcement, and responsibility
You may stop using Bailiwick and may request account or learner-data deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. A school may control school-managed records and retention. We may restrict or end access for serious or repeated violations, security risk, legal requirements, or discontinued service, using reasonable notice when circumstances allow.
The service is provided on an "as available" basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not promise uninterrupted operation, that every activity or AI response will be error-free, or that Bailiwick will satisfy every school's legal, curricular, accessibility, or technical requirements without that school's own review. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be limited.
You are responsible for your own misuse of the service and for content you submit. If you use Bailiwick on behalf of a school or organization, you confirm that you have authority to do so.
4. Changes and contact
We may revise these Terms as Bailiwick changes. We will update the date above and provide additional notice or request renewed acceptance when a material change requires it. Continued use after an effective update means the responsible adult accepts the revised Terms, except where law requires a different process.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to beginnerbookworms@gmail.com. Do not include a learner's password, PIN, or unnecessary personal information.
